Year: 2016 Language: english Author: DNV-GL & Lloyd’s Register Genre: Practical guide Format: EXE & xlsx Description: From 1st January 2015, the maximum allowable sulphur content of marine fuel oil used within the Emission Control Area for Sulphur Oxides (ECA-SOx) as specified by MARPOL Annex VI will be 0.10% m/m. The exception will be for ships using equivalent means as per MARPOL Annex VI regulation 4 such as an approved exhaust gas cleaning system. Due to that, ships, traiding in North sea, needs to exchange fuel oil of ME from MDO to HFO and back to stay under that regulation. There are two calculators, helping for the desision of the time of such exchange in this torent: from Lloyd’s Register (FOBAS) and from DNV-GL. Lloyd’s Register developed the FOBAS Fuel Changeover Calculator providing the possibility to make an estimate of the time required to switch from high to low sulphur fuel oil assisting in meeting the required sulphur limits at engine inlet. This calculator is suited for segregated Low and High sulphur fuel oil systems where mixing takes place after service tank. It is advisable that the guidance notes provided with the calculator are read prior to using this tool. Same, but little bit more complicated app. is issued by DNV-GL. Uploaded application is trial version, without data of the ship. Full function application with all ship's data you can obtain from DNV-GL (for some amount of money of course). By own expirience, FOBAS is more than enough (even with this, not last edition of application) for ship's engineers to have rough understanding when they need to start the exchange process. Additional info: FOBAS applications is made at Microsoft Exel format. DNV-GL application needs NET Framework 3.5 installed on your PC.
