More specifically for the projections used in ECDIS and in order to ensure commonality of display and simplify the task of both the user and the Type Approval authorities, there is a need for standardization of the display through the use of suitable projections for the Arctic and the sub Arctic areas. The study area for this project extends from 50° to 90° [lat] although the Arctic Region itself is considered to be north of the 68th parallel (fig.1). This is due to the fact that it was considered necessary to address the issue of the selection of suitable projections for the sub-Arctic Region.
