Description: The aim of a mariner is to ensure that his ship reaches its destination safely and efficiently. Studies have shown that majority of accidents at sea are due to human error and a weak and poor organisation of the Bridge Team.
When Bridge operations are loosely organised the impression can be given that things will be alright, but when the unexpected occurs, confusion arises, more errors happen, it becomes difficult to make decisions which could lead into an accident. Hence the need for an efficient Bridge Team and a Good Bridge Team Management.
We must appreciate that for a Bridge Team to be successful there must be good teamwork, good co-ordi,nation, communication and capabilities of handling emergencies. All team members should be kept fully aware of what is expected of them and their performance in their job frequently monitored and feedback given.
