Guide to Good industry practices for Bulk LP Gas installations
Year: 2013 Language: english Author: World LP Gas Association Genre: Guide Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 73 Description: LP Gas is commonly stored in pressure vessels in various facilities i.e. terminals and depots, cylinder filling plants, Autogas fuelling stations and customer sites. The capacities of these facilities can range from 100,000 MT (metric tonnes) for large import terminals to as small as 0.5 MT for a domestic installation. Whatever the size of an LP Gas installation, any safety incident whether due to equipment failure or external threats has the potential to cause injury and/or property damage not only to people working within these facilities but also the population of the surrounding communities. It is therefore important to all stakeholders in the industry to manage and reduce the risks associated with operating an LP Gas facility to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). This can be achieved with suitable design and engineering standards, safe operations, and comprehensive and rigorous maintenance programmes combined with effective staff training programmes. This guide should always be used in conjunction with local standards and regulations. If the requirements of the local standards or regulations are less than the guide, the latter should be adopted to ensure a higher level of safety for the LP Gas facility. The recommendation in this guide applies to pressurised LP Gas facilities covering terminals and depot, cylinder filling plants, Autogas fuelling sites and industrial, commercial, agricultural and domestic installations permanently installed and refilled onsite. This Guide does not cover refrigerated terminals, caverns, salt domes and mobile cylinder installations.
