Description: This booklet contains all the safety and health standards specific to the Shipyard Industry contained in Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1915, as of July 1, 2014. Also included are brief discussions of the following:
1. The importance of regular employee training to establish and reinforce employee awareness in the areas of job safety and health.
2. The elements of a safety and health program that can be used by employers to develop effective programs at their work sites.
A brief description of the OSHA Consultation Program, which is available to assist employers, is also included at the end of this publication.
It is not a standard or regulation, and it creates no new legal obligations. It contains recommendations as well as descriptions of mandatory safety and health standards. The recommendations are advisory in nature, informational in content, and are intended to assist employers in providing a safe and healthful workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) requires employers to comply with safety and health standards and regulations promulgated by OSHA or by a state with an OSHA-approved state plan.
