Description: Crowd funding campaign for a VR engine room simulator. Help support us and let's change the world's perspective on maritime engineering !

Short Summary

  • Studio 8ight is a young and ambitious development studio. We are working hard to make an impact on the players, especially those that enjoy the VR/AR arena. One of our primary goals is to marry gaming and education, applications that pronounce them as one and the same. Our team is comprised of professionals in the yachting industry that boast a collective experience of well over 30 years; from the keen Captain to the savvy Chief Engineer.

What We Need & What You Get

  • Here at the Studio we are all committed to our endeavours 110%. As with most things in life compromises must be made to ensure success and while we are all too familiar with these compromises we thought long and hard about opening our doors to the community to aid in our quest. For the purposes of producing VR compatible models along with the relavant coding we are in search of an additional 100k Euros to complete our funding.
  • Throughout and exceeding the duration of the project we will be paying close attention to the community and their suggestions as we progress. We also see this as an opportunity to fashion a Superyacht that is not only a product of our 30+ years of experience aboard these vessels but one that we will build alongside the public, meshing ideas together to create something truly special the likes of which has never been seen before.
  • We invite curious minds and ambitious players from all over the globe to take part in this adventure as we sail with the wind at our backs on the sun on our faces!

The Impact

  • We strongly believe that sharing this information that we have been privy to for so many years will allow players to gain an in-depth understanding of what it is like aboard these Superyachts, the likes of which exist in mere photographs to date.
  • Please take the time to read this article that I have been featured in on a prominent Yachting website as this will reinforce our yachting affiliations and accreditation as it were:
  • Through the extensive experience and sharp mind of our Chief Engineer we have developed a comprehensive layout of engineering scenarios that will be used in the simulation to challenge the players on a level that has never been seen before in the gaming industry. To date this type of engineering simulation simply does not exist and we hope to bring this wonderful world the the public. We ultimately hope to dissolve the boundaries that separate yachting from the rest of the world :)

Risks & Challenges

  • At this point we have draft models of the prospective engine room along with the 16V engine that will be used in the first iteration of the simulation. Kindly bear in mind that all scenarios and models are being built to reflect real-world conditions, we have not fabricated any outlandish engineering concepts that would not otherwise exist in the real world. This will make the simulation a very convincing one even to those that already work in this field being fashioned by their peers.
  • As many of you may already know, creating a VR simulation is often a tedious and daunting task on account of the strict frame rate requirement and so we find one of our most gruelling challenges has been to optimise the 3D models and respective environments to run smoothly to avoid the associated motion sickness all while still providing that realistic feel to maintain the immersion.

Other Ways You Can Help

  • Our doors are open, we want to hear from you, backer or not. Talk to us about your ideas for the yacht, invite your friends to contribute their ideas as well :) We are all ears !
