Force Z, Shipwrecks of the South China Sea-HMS Prince of Wales & HMS Repulse
Year: 2013 Language: english Author: Rod MacDonald Genre: History Publisher: Whittles Publishing Edition: First ISBN: 978-1849950954 Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 177 Description: Rod MacDonald, the author of this book, lives in Stonehaven, a small fishing town in Scotland where he is a local skipper running dive charters and a RYA Powerboat Instructor. He is also a keen sailor and former lifeboat crew and RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager running the Stonehaven Lifeboat service. He took up diving in the early 1980's and very quickly went on to develop an interest in shipwrecks, he dived a great number of them, and he published his experience in books together with the history of the ships involved. Force Z Shipwrecks of the South China Sea - HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse dive operation was launched at OZTeK, Sydney on 15 March 2013. In 2015 Rod was inducted into The Explorers Club of New York in recognition of his exploratory work with shipwrecks. This book is a relatively short but concise history of the background and fate of Force Z. It provides a quick overview of the history of the two main ships, HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse; but primarily focuses on the events leading up to the deployment and eventual destruction of Force Z. The evidence provided by the dives on the wreck sites is fascinating and explains in great detail how and why the ships were damaged and ultimately sank. I would recommend for this book anyone interested in WW II naval history.
