Code of Practice for the Safe mooring of Vessels on the Thames, updated to 2013
Year: 2010 Language: english Author: PORT OF LONDON AUTHORITY Genre: Guide Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 36 Description: The mooring and unmooring of vessels is potentially a hazardous operation. It is also an operation, which demands a high degree of teamwork. To be both efficient and safe, all involved must be properly trained and equipped, and must have a clear understanding of the contribution made by others, as well as their own role and responsibilities. This Code has been compiled with the assistance of the port community and river users. It describes established good practice for the safe and efficient mooring and unmooring of vessels on the Thames and is published for the guidance of all involved, be they linesmen, boatmen, tug crews, ship’s staff, masters, pilots or berth operators. Accordingly, it has been given wide circulation in anticipation that all concerned will wish to contribute to the achievement of safety by complying with its provisions. The Code is reviewed and amended as necessary, but in any event at least every three years. This edition replaces the original 2003 version, for which a number of addendums had been issued during the intervening period.
