Year: 2000 Language: english Author: Sims Ernest Publisher: Adlard Coles Nautical Edition: Second ISBN: 0-7136-3691-2 Format: PDF Quality: Scanned pages Pages count: 130 Description: This book is an updated version of my previous book Boat building in Aluminium Alloy. Although much of the former edition remains relevant, welding machines and technology have now greatly improved. This makes it possible, once the machine settings have been accurately set, for a less skilled operator to obtain a reasonable quality weld, even though all important welds should, of course, still be entrusted to a coded welder. Anti-foulings have also changed, with TBT no longer being used. A new chapter (Chapter 19) has been added on unit construction. This enables the smaller yard with limited space to build larger vessels, and helps the larger yard to employ more cost effectively more people at a time, thus reducing the time spent on assembly. Finally, in order to broaden the base and make the book more complete, two new chapters, 20 and 21, have been added. Designing Structures in Aluminium Alloys is by Tony Marchant and Racing Powerboats is contributed by John Walker. Tony Marchant has practised for over twenty years as a consultant in the marine industry, during which time he has been involved in the design of structures for many powercraft, fast ferries and sailing yachts. He is a recognised authority on lightweight structures for all types of marine vessels. He is a Director of the marine consultancy - Associated and Marine Technology. John Walker worked with me as Team Manager for Enfield Racing. More recently he has been involved in building racing and fast power craft in GRP, FRP and aluminium with Cougar. He has charted powerboat racing as a competitor and journalist, currently for Motorboats Monthly, and is a director of the technical consultancy - Associated and Marine Technology.
