Starting-up, Manoeuvring and Arrival in Port
The following descriptions cover the standard manoeuvring system for the 50-98MC engines.
Since the manoeuvring system supplied for a specific engine may differ from the standard system, Chapter 907 in Volume III and ‘Plant Installation Drawings' should always be consulted when dealing with questions regarding a specific plant.
1. Preparations for Starting
See Chapter 705, Item 3.3 regarding correct fuel oil temperature before starting.
Regarding checks to be made before starting, when cylinders are out of operation, see Chapter 704, ‘Emergency Running with Cylinders or Turbochargers out of Operation’, Item
MacGREGOR Hydraulic Function
The following description refers to the standard hydraulic system of MacGREGOR hydraulic deck cranes, normal version.
Minor variations in the hydraulic system may occur in individual cranes of the same type, and the objective of this description is only to provide a general orientation concerning the arrangement of the hydraulic system.
Acomplete hydraulic circuit diagram relating specifically to your crane will be found in the instruction manual, section “Spare Parts", Group 9.4.
Three separate hydraulic work circuits, ie, the hoisting, luffing, and slewing circuits, plus feed and control-pressure circuits, make up the complete crane
operating system.
Each of these work circuits may have one or more pumps located in the pump unit, in Figure 1 marked PHO, PLU, PSL. Pump PF for the feed and control-pressure system is located inside the hydraulic reservoir.

Identifying circuits in the hydraulic diagram
Figure 1 shows the arrangement of the three work circuits, hoisting, luffing, and slewing circuits, together with the feed and control-pressure circuit. The circuits appear in the same order in the hydraulic diagram.
Every hydraulic component is represented by a special symbol in the circuit diagram. The meaning of the symbols is explained in section “General” inthe Manual. The symbol for the reservoir is shown in several places in the diagram for greater simplicity of drawing; but there is naturally only one reservoir in actual fact.

1.1 Adjusting the Zero Point of the Fuel Link Connecting Rod
Fix the connecting rod to the governor actuator as follows:
1) After stopping the main engine, separate the connecting rod from the local control stand.
2) Move the fuel linkage by hand to the zero position.
3) Move the actuator by hand to the zero position.
4) After loosening the lock nut for the connecting rod, screw the rod connector in the actuator rod.
5) Adjust the rod length to match the connecting hole of the connecting rod with that of the local control stand.
6) Tighten the lock nut for the connecting rod.
1.2 Adjustment of zero side stopper
Adjust a zero side stopper as follows, so as not to interfere with a zero side stopper with an engine, when an actuator became a zero position.
1) An actuator is made a zero position.
2) Set the rack minimum position to -1 mm or less in the actuator position.
