Drugs and Ships Classification, Carriers and Control
Year: 1992 Language: english Author: Kenneth Luck Genre: Reference book Publisher: Withrby & Co. Ltd. ISBN: 1 85609 005 1 Format: PDF Quality: OCR with errors Pages count: 95 Description: During the latter part of the twentieth century, illicit drugs have become the scourge of the civilised world threatening not only the health and life of the community but the very fabric of the society in which we live. Their use commands the attention of governments, politicians, businessmen, in fact, everyone down to the man and woman in the street. By the very nature of things, much of the trade in illicit drugs is carried on by sea with the commercial transport system used by the traffickers and the crews of these vessels can do much to help in eliminating the problem. This book has been written with the intention of bringing home to the mariner not only the problems but, much more important in the fight against the scourge, what he can do to help. No-one will suggest that the fight is going to be easy. When there is a high level of demand and a willingness to meet the demand, it is going to take something quite extraordinary to stop the traffic. But that is not to say that every individual, if only in a small way, cannot and should not, do something to help. Additional info: Some material has been taken from documents in the public sector but due acknowledgement must be made of the work of Dr. Bjorn Aune of the United States and, in particular, sincere thanks are due to him for permission to reproduce the maps and diagrams which accompany the text.
