Description: There are many sights that you can see on the international coasts and islands. There are many more. These destinations include beaches, islands, and top tourist spots. However, it is important to note that most of these places require air travel, which can leave a huge carbon footprint. You might be interested in eco-tourism options that do not require a jet plane. We support sustainable travel. Consider carbon offset if you have to fly.
Many beaches around the globe are subject to plastic, marine litter, and seaweed proliferation. Therefore, pictures in travel brochures may not accurately reflect what you will see once you arrive. There will be less plastic on UK beaches. Plastic is a problem in the Mediterranean Sea. Many of these islands will also be affected by rising sea levels.
It is actually tourists who are visiting these exotic destinations in greater numbers than ever that is causing global climate change from the huge carbon dioxide emissions from aircraft burning kerosene. These same tourists also create more plastic waste to be able to enjoy the beaches. It is a vicious cycle where nature suffers from humans admiring it. If we want to save the places we love, we must change our holiday habits.
The European Commission has developed a strategy to boost growth and employment in the maritime and coastal tourism sector.
The beauty, cultural richness, and diversity of the EU's coast areas make them a popular destination for holidaymakers from Europe and around the world. Coastal and maritime tourism is an important sector. This sector employs more than 3.2 million people and generates EUR 183 billion in total gross value added. It also represents over a third of the maritime industry. The regions bordering Europe account for 51% of Europe's hotel bed capacity.
The Blue Growth Strategy of the EU has identified the maritime and coastal tourism sector as an area that has special potential to foster a smart and sustainable Europe.
On February 20, 2014, the EU Commission adopted the Communication, titled "A European Strategy for more Growth and jobs in Coastal and Maritime Tourism". This new blueprint aims to increase European coastal and maritime tourism and unlock its potential.
The strategy is being implemented by the Commission through an action plan that includes 14 actions.
