Description: Basil Metaxas wrote a much shorter book than Martin Stopford’s later work, but it is clear and incisive. Whilst he is discussing the now-extinct ‘tweendeck tramp, his grasp of the principles shines through, and it is the work of a moment to apply them to modern ship types. I have never seen anything like Metaxas’ chapter on tonnage stabilisation schemes anywhere else. His analysis of the price inelastic nature of shipping demand is precisely right and we see it demonstrated today.
Martin Stopford’s book is excellent for students; Basil Metaxas’s book is for the working professional. Don’t be without it
