Maritime english – Exercises

Language: english
Author: www.btja.pl
Format: PDF
Quality: eBook
Number of pages: 65
Description: Like any other industry, the international marine industry has its own glossary composed of technical terms. Familiarity with this professional lexicon enables communication between specialists all over the word and correct application of international conventions and regulations. Reading rules, magazines and technical papers can help considerably.
Ships are developing rapidly and the rules for their construction and operation are changing fast. It is neither possible to build the ship correctly nor operate her safely without proper understanding of regulations and procedures or installation and operating manuals. Therefore, a good knowledge of professional maritime English in design offices, shipyards, shipping companies and on board ships is a very important safety factor at sea.
This publication contains descriptions of a wide range of latest cargo ship types, their equipment and systems. The technical terms introduced in the book comply with the resent international standards. We tried to avoid old terms and phrases which were used in the times of sailing ships.
The book has been developed for undergraduate students of naval architecture, marine engineering or maritime technology courses. However, it should also prove useful to seagoing marine engineers and deck officers, superintendents, surveyors and ship designers.
