Two crew members of South Korean tanker DL Calla were killed in an explosion that occurred late Wednesday offshore Malaysia, New Strait Times reports.
Two more crew members sustained injuries in the blast and have been brought to a hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
The explosion on board the vessel, loaded with liquefied natural gas, was caused by a gas leakage, the newspaper quoted Chief of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, G. Xavier Theradas as saying.
Theradas said the agency received a distress call from the South Korean Coast Guard about a fire on board a Korean vessel DL CALLA sailing about 26 nautical miles off Pulau Kapas at 7 pm.
Once a rescue vessel arrived at the scene the fire on board had been extinguished.
The vessel was carrying 23 crew and was en route to a port in Thailand to unload its LNG cargo.
