Year: 2017 Language: english Genre: Educational Playtime: ~ 19 min Quality: DVD5 Format: VOB Video: 1 896 kb/s / 720x576 / 16:9 / 25 FPS Audio: 320 kb/s / 48.0 kHz Description: Carrying out an inspection in the scavenge space of a large two stroke main engine is an extremely useful way of diagnosing engine condition, assessing the need to adjust cylinder lubrication and for planning maintenance. This reduces maintenance and running costs and avoids costly breakdowns. Produced in association with SEASPAN, this film shows how to plan and safely carry out a scavenge inspection, and what to check whilst in the scavenge space. Using film footage and images taken on various main engine types used in the Seaspan fleet, we look at what should be checked, and what the scavenge space, cylinder, piston and piston rings will look like across a range of conditions varying from very good condition to those found when typical common faults occur. This film will be particularly suitable for engineers at the operational and management level who have responsibility for carrying out main engine condition checks in the scavenge space. Legislation & references - STCW Table A-III/2: Marine engineering at the management level. Learning objectives - Carry out scavenge space inspections safely. - Assess the general condition of the scavenge space and the fittings within the space. - Assess and record the condition of: cylinder liners and cylinder lubrication, piston rings and ring coatings, piston crowns, skirts and piston rods, scavenge flap valves, auxiliary blowers.
