Articles deal with the military cartography of the First World War (1914-1918). The papers are classified by period and regional sub-theme, i.e. Military Cartography from the 18th to the 20th century; WW I Cartography in Belgium, Central Europe, etc. 4. History of Cartography - 4th International Symposium of the ICA, 2012. This volume consists of 20 articles, and is focused on the general theme, “Exploration—Discovery—Cartography”, as ehe nineteenth century was a period characterised by a quest for empirical knowledge with regard to the geography of the earth, marked by voyages of exploration by sea and land. 5. History of Cartography - 3rd International Symposium of the ICA Commission, 2010. This volume emanates from the 3rd International Symposium of the ICA Commission on the History of Cartography, 2010. The general theme was “Charting the Cartography of Chartered Companies”. Chartered Companies were decided on as they played an important role in semi-official overseas exploration, trade, expansion, and colonial power. These companies relied upon maps and charts for planning, implementation and operation, and often employed their own surveyors and map making departments. The volume consists of 18 articles.
