The International Comparative Legal Guide to: Shipping Law
Year: 2020 Language: English Author: Global Legal Group Genre: Practical guide Publisher: Global Legal Group ISBN: 978-1-83918-058-3 Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 318 Description: This edition offers a comprehensive overview of maritime law in 40 jurisdictions. The information provided covers a wide range of legal, regulatory, procedural, technical and practical issues, both in relation to marine accidents as well as in contract of carriage disputes. The contributors to the publication are all well-established and highly experienced ship- ping law practitioners and very well-placed to advise on key aspects of legal maritime matters in their jurisdictions. Their contributions offer both a legal and commercial perspective on dealing with shipping disputes, whether in court proceedings or through alternative dispute resolution (arbitration/mediation). I should like to thank all the contributors for sharing their knowledge and their experience to make this an invalu- able resource. The international shipping industry is responsible for the carriage of approximately 80% of world trade and is, therefore, the key contributor to the global economy. Whilst financial, political, environmental and technological factors might influence the global economy in other ways, the international maritime sector has always played, and will continue to play, a major role in facilitating international trade. Indeed, the UK Government has recognised the importance of the shipping industry to the UK economy and to global trade in “Maritime 2050: Navigating the Future”, a compre- hensive document from the Department of Transport that sets out the UK’s maritime strategy. Other governments around the globe have also traditionally emphasised the importance of their maritime industry to the domestic and global economy and have developed their own strategies for enhancing the shipping sector. This publication provides key players in the shipping sector with an understanding of the type of legal and regulatory issues that can arise in their businesses and offers at least some potential solutions. I hope that it gives you all some useful insight into the world of shipping law in 2020.
