Year: 2025 Language: English Author: MPC Genre: Bulletin Publisher: Maritime Professional Council of the UK (MPC) Edition: November 2025 Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 36 Description: The primary aims of this publication are to further educate and to provide essential guidance and best practice about lithium-ion batteries and some of the high-profile incidents that have resulted because of this technology. Neither Frances nor I are technically gifted, so we are grateful for the many existing resources and reports that we have been able to tap into in the collation of this publication, which has taken months to research and compile. Part of the challenge has been knowing when to draw a line, stop, publish and share what we know as it is a fast-moving landscape. By that I mean there are more high-profile li-ion battery fires and events hitting the news headlines internationally on a regular basis – not just in the marine sector – which are reaching the attention of the public as awareness of this phenomenon grows. We have shared a number of case studies, including links to reports to highlight the challenges facing regulators, the authorities and the wider general public.
