A boat carrying close to 100 people capsized Thursday morning in the Malacca Strait, off the coast of Selangor, local media reported the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) as saying.
MMEA dispatched a patrol boat from the Klang Maritime District to the scene after local fishermen spotted the capsized boat off Sabak Bernam around 10:30 am local time, and alerted the authorities.
There have been no reports of any casualties so far, and the exact number of people who were onboard the vessel when it capsized is unknown.
Several survivors have reportedly been rescued by the local fishermen. Some media reported that the boat was carrying illegal immigrants.
