The text of the Regulations, which is legally binding, must be read in the context of the guide and the standards mentioned in section 5 of the Regulations. There may be ways of meeting the legal functional requirements of the Regulations other than those stated in the standards. However, if the guide and the standards are used, the legal requirements of the Regulations will be presumed met.
The purpose of these regulations is to achieve a satisfactory level of electrical safety in maritime electrical installations and in the operation of electrical equipment connected
to these installations.
