(Reuters) - A Kuwaiti oil tanker had a "minor collision" with a container ship in Bangladesh's port of Chittagong, the Kuwaiti state news agency KUNA reported on Thursday.
The accident caused no casualties and no spill, KUNA said, citing the Kuwait Oil Tankers Company, which owns the Burgan tanker.
The Burgan was "safely anchored" at the port, it added. The other vessel involved in the accident was the Singapore-flagged XPress Mahananda, it said.
Maritime traffic movement on the Karnaphuli channel has resumed, three hours after two ships collided at the Chittagong Port.
Earlier, around 8:30am on Friday, a feeder vessel collided with an oil tanker at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port – halting marine traffic on the Karnaphuli River.
The incident occurred in the channel adjacent to the Boat Club area, said Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Md Omar Faruque.
“Following the collision, the ships have been taken to a dry dock and the Karnaphuli channel is now clear and open for marine traffic,” he said.
A three-member probe committee-headed by Captain Faridul Alam—deputy conservator of Chittagong Port Authority—has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident and the extent of the damage.
The committee was asked to submit a report within three working days, Faruque added.
