Description: The IGC code was adopted in 1983 and entered into force in 1986. It has been regularly, though moderately, amended since then while substantial technological developments took place over the last years. A proposal that the IGC code be revised under the auspice of SIGTTO was submitted by the UK at the IMO MSC 83 on 3 July 2007 and agreed. SIGTTO has consequently been tasked to produce, with the support of the industry, a draft revised IGC code to be submitted to the IMO. Revision works started in 2008, where SIGTTO had a role of coordination of the industry working groups that were shaped to undertake these revision works (129 participants from 18 countries representing 48 entities). The Revised IGC Code was adopted on 22 May 2014 by Resolution MSC.370(93) It will apply to units whose construction begins on or after 1 July 2016. This document presents a gap analysis between the revised IGC Code and the previous IGC Code.
The aim of this document is to highlight differences between the new and previous requirements or the modifications in the technical provisions where applicable.
