Year: 2025 Language: English Author: Yi Jiang · Shufang Zhang · Huakai Zhao Genre: Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation Publisher: National Defense Industry Press Edition: 2025 ISBN: 978-981-96-2192-7 Format: PDF Quality: eBook Pages count: 273 Description: With the evolution of satellite navigation technology, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has become increasingly prominent. Its applications spans various sectors of social development. GNSS plays a crucial and growing role in both national defense and economy. In the maritime domain, the primary purpose of using GNSS is to leverage its positioning information to ensure maritime navigation safety. With the advancement of GNSS, numerous marine application systems based on GNSS positioning information have emerged. These include the Automatic Identification System (AIS), ship dynamics monitoring systems, and the Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) system. These systems are indispensable for ensuring navigation safety and enhancing navigation efficiency. In recent years, the development of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) has led to its services, including positioning, navigation, timing, and short messaging, gaining increasing recognition and trust. In 2014, the BDS officially became an integral component of the global radio navigation system, as acknowledged by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), achieving international legal recognition for maritime applications. In 2022, BeiDou Message Service System (BDMSS) is recognized by IMO in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). As a Category a member of the IMO Council, China adheres to the IMO International Convention and actively promotes the internationalization and industrialization of the BDS within the maritime sector. The overarching goal is to propel the global application of the BDS in maritime domains and establish an international standard system for its maritime applications.
